“Motives”

2021. Acrylic on Canvas

3 – 30 x 24 in.

I met a “motivated warrior,” and he talked with me about motives.

He thought deeply about his own actions and how they would impact others. He explained to me that motives were like seeds. When you plant a seed, it will grow. If your motives are self-seeking, then the fruit, or the end result will be bad. If your motives are for the good of others, the fruit will be good.

It’s easy for people to rationalize their motives to justify their actions, so it’s important to ask yourself, “What am I really motivated by?”

This warrior helped me better understand that, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”

So I ask, “Lord, what is good for others? How am I to know? Teach me, so I can see clearly. What am I motivated by? Do I live for self, or do I live for You? Do I seek Your will, or do I seek my own?”

Proverbs 16:2 NIV | Proverbs 21:2 NIV

A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.
