“You Cannot Come”

Thank you photo_naga98

There was a group of men who were seen as pious and good in the eyes of the people. They were respected leaders and righteous teachers in their community. These men were wise and knowledgeable.

They and all their people were expecting a man to come; a man sent by God to deliver them. For generations they waited for this man.

And after much time, the man did come. But when he came, they did not recognize him as the man they were expecting. He did not fit the image of what they thought he would be like, so they did not receive him.

Maybe they thought he would be like them; that he would act like them, speak like them, think like them.

But he did not. In fact, the things he did, the way he spoke, the way he thought, was like no one else. He seemed to contradict their ways. And they hated him for it.

They hated this man so much, that they wanted to get rid of him. They saw him as a danger to the people, because their perspective was skewed. They were the real danger to the people.

He was aware of this, so he spoke these words to them…

“I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

Where I am, you cannot come.

Where I am, you cannot come.

Where I am, you cannot come…

Many people read the stories about these pious men and think, “I would never be like those men. They did not recognize the very one their hopes were set on!”

But these knowledgeable men truly believed they were doing the right thing. How many, how many of us, are these men today? Many. And to them, these same words will be spoken…”Where I am, you cannot come.”

Love,
